VW T6 Spare Wheel

Hi All,
I've got a VW T6 transporter 2021 and does anyone know if a 235/55/17 spare wheel will fit in the under wheel carrier because I would like to buy one? I currently have a 205/65/16 wheel as a spare in the carrier but it is damaged.
I thought that a 17" spare wheel would better match the 20" alloys on my van, what do you think?

Hi, don’t know but I bought a 20 inch spare and DubDoc Shop fabricated the bracket to suit, so they can do it. Cost £135, they are based in Cosby Leicestershire

No, still don't know if a 235/55/17 will fit the carrier. Ah well I'll get under the van at the weekend and measure the carrier to see if it will fit. 👍

Slightly off topic but I've got 17" Devonport wheels fitted with Cross Climate Agilis on my van and after damaging one last year (it was still legal but annoyed me), I bought another one fitted with exactly the same tyre in the same condition off a guy in Birmingham. My initial thinking was that the old one would make a good spare in place of the original 16" steel one that I've currently got hanging under the van. However, on the drive down the M5 to go home, the lightbulb went on in my little brain when I realised that a CC Agilis wouldn't be any good as a spare as they're directional so OK on the passenger side but no use otherwise.

Good point. Worth mentioning.

Well I purchased a 235/55/17 wheel/tyre and it definitely does not fit in the carrier on my T6, as in that the bolts don't reach. I even lowered the pin and still the bolts won't reach to do up. Very, very frustrating.
And I can't remove the left bolt cos it's fixed.
Does anyone have any ideas as what to do?

Is the carrier on a T6.1 different to a T6? Both the bolts on mine can be removed at the rear as well.

That size is standard issue in any non-entry level T6 (and even in some baseline T32). It's hard to believe it cannot fit at all . I heard that some T6 came with short bracket bolts - like 55 mm, in place of long ones (like 90 mm), though.
I think the longer bolts can be had from OEM.

If you’re running 17” wheels with directional tyres just fit a standard 17” steel spare with a non directional tyre such as a factory fit Continental VanContactEco 215/60 R17C.
