I recently purchased a secondhand VW Discover Media PQ MIB dab satnav system to upgrade my T6. my local VW specialist is going to fit it including all the component protection. does anyone know if the satnav will work when fitted or would I have to buy the maps and licence from VW main dealer. also, could i get apple carplay to work on it or would I need the MIB2

That is an MIB2 headunit ?
If want my advice I would return it now if you can get your money back, these do not/will not fully work outside of the original vehicle it was removed from

Component protection will not get this unit working properly, you will be able to get it installed and when it senses it is in the wrong vehicle all the media features will shutdown and you will be left with a very expensive radio !

There is a workaround/fix for this but one of the steps involves opening the headunit and modifying the internals as well as adding a component protection filter to block out the vans CP signal and it starts to get expensive, unless you got this cheap and can guarantee it’s never been powered up outside of the original vehicle then it’s prob not worth pursuing

The guy that plans to fit it has told me as long as it’s not registered as stolen with VAG he has the software that links to VAG to remove the component protection and then he can assign it to my vehicle , and has done it many times before.. so now I’m not sure who to believe

Get it in writing & go with it. If it’s true, keep his details private & you could start earning a few bob on here.
