I got thinking about some old school security devices the other day..........has anyone got any additional security? I'm thinking about a disc lock for the steering wheel and a lock for the spare wheel?

What if anything has anyone else got?

Security film on front door glass prevents entry to the cabin area. Its very strong once the film is applied and installed correctly.
This is what my business does.

If you use the van to do outside sports/activities the keys are always vunerable to being lifted, inside a bag/jacket left kicking around. No matter what locks you have they are u/s if somebody has the keys.
20 years ago Peugeot/Citroen had a little key pad you typed a pin in to start the car. That would be really useful for us, although not easy to find now as a retro fit.
Wondering if the Pendle security/map box would be a good idea? Just not sure where it fits?
The jaguar wrist band looks a good idea, though I doubt you could ever retro fit something like that???

I've a disc lok that gets put on every night

that's what I'm thinking of. Looked at their website......they do forum discounts. I wonder could we organise something if there was sufficient interest?

I would guess that nearly all T5/t6 stolen would have had the keys stolen first.
If you keep the key to your disc lock on your key ring, not sure if there is any point
If you don't keep your keys together, that would become a PITA.

I think the key is having multiple layers of security and not just relying on the cat 1 alarm/immobiliser (some of) the T6s come with. A lot of insurers will insist on some form of tracker, especially with typical values for a Cali or other high spec conversion being in the £50k+ bracket. Personally, I would also look at some sort of after market immobilisation, either electronic (kill switches, etc.) or mechanical such as discussed in this thread. My car keys are pretty well protected at home but my biggest concern at the moment is key cloning - some sort of aftermarket immobilisation will help to at least slow someone down in the event of your keys being cloned and a tracker will help, but not guarantee, you get it back. Another thing to consider is marking the vehicle with something such as "Smart Water" and applying the stickers in prominent places to make any would be thieves think twice and move onto an easier target. I hate that we have to think like this and take steps, spending lots of money, etc.. because of the thieving gits that live amongst us!

Back2you tracker is great value and practical ;)
Secret switch to disable the brake light switch (prevent starting or pulling away with a DSG)
Secret switch to disable power to the ODB port to prevent key adding.

Oh i see it can resist jamming
A lot of these cat 5 trackers also allow you to set up geofences so as soon as your vehicle moves outside and/or is not visible in the geofence you get notified - at least gives you chance to get on it quickly. One downside to these trackers is that you need an additional fob/card which should be kept separate from your keys - not sure how insurers, if you declare a cat 5 tracker, would view it if your fob was left in the vehicle and/or stored with your keys??

This looks like a good solution for my needs; back to the 1980's Peugeot keypad, but using the buttons on your steering wheel or similar

Autowatch Ghost Immobiliser |

Anybody come across this solution before?
Had it installed on my van from new - works very well. Can be a bit of a pain when you forget about it and try to start without the code - you have to wait circa 30 seconds for it to reset before trying again - fortunately the only times I seem to do this is when it doesn’t matter, though I have done it a couple of times at petrol stations.

That looks very different (yes had an old key pad on my Citroën)
Interested to here peoples thoughts on this.

The Ghost Immobiliser is good but you need a MFSW to put keycode into. I don’t think a key pad will be good has it will defeat the objective. I’m looking at the Clifford alarms 650 mk 2 with proximity sensors in and out. Going back these Clifford s alarms was the best for top end vehicles. Please could anybody advise me help

I think the Ghost can be coded from dashboard buttons as well but, without the MFSW, you would have less buttons to use - still quite a lot of combinations to play with??

For me, it is all about layers of security - my van (Highline spec PV) came with a factory fit cat 1 alarm immobiliser so, whilst something like the Clifford appears to be a very good system, it would effectively be replacing what is already there, hence the investment in something different to supplement what is already there. Also, with these cat 1 systems, if someone gets your keys they get your van - a Ghost, or something else that relies on some sort of user input, will slow them down a bit.

Yes it’s about layers of security. I’d rather use something that adds extra than double up on manufacturers systems.
I like the idea of trackers but you have to rely on the Police and theirs too many horror stories about them doing nothing to help. It’s low priority for them really as no one is in physical danger.

Whilst it is low priority for the police trackers can offer them quick/easy wins in terms of vehicle recovery and improving their stats :)

If you are looking at trackers but are worried about police response then have a look at Cantrack - CanTrack.com – GPS Fleet Tracking, Asset Theft Recovery Solutions - they use their own team of trackers to physically locate and then secure the vehicle.
