Yes I saw an article about that about an hour after posting but I guess it still stands just pushed forward a year. Seems a bit off that a software update can cause a lot of perfectly serviceable older hardware to become redundant all the same. Cheers.Have a look at this.

VCDS updates and Windows updates are not connected.

1.14 What versions of Windows does VCDS work on?
Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11 are considered "supported". VCDS will probably still work on Windows XP and Vista, but we are no longer testingit on these outdated versions. Windows versions older than XP (95, 98, ME, NT4, or 2000) almost certainly won't work.
