VANMAX PopTop -- Awesome, then gone, now back again !! --

Thanks for all this info. I think I might be pushing the button on a colour coded pop top from Halifax Camper Conversions at some point in the coming months. Although i just found two new rust spots when detailing her today. Am torn on getting those sorted first or getting a pop top first.
poptop definatly.

when you go see the guys tell them Dellmassive & The T6Forum sent you - you might get a small discount.

I'm struggling here, looks like I've fallen short with my bonus prediction. creative camperz are literally a 5 min drive from my house and about £1000 cheaper. Am enquiring with HCC all the same. See what they quote me

Ok, but what roof are CC fitting?

The same Van max sport roof?

There are so many different roof manufacturers, and for me the MOST important thing was the external look, I wanted the van to look like it didn't have a roof.

I'm not a fan of the tubby roof look.

The HiLo/Horizon roof would be the ultimate look, but your pay the ultimate price.....the vanmax roof was the compromise in looks versus price

But, there are tons of other roofs that are cheaper..... But looks tubby or are lesser quality.

IE,

The finish,
Colour coded
Stainless steel scissor pack
Rams
Bed board
Inner roof carpet
Supplied lights and switch
Canvans quality
Canvans colours and window
Cab roof carpet match
Cab roof slide cover over gap.
Cable route for solar.
Option for upper bed lights
Pull handle for roof.
Lash downs
Etc
Etc.

All these things people are blissfuly unaware........untill you have a roof., then you notice all the above when compared to other roofs

Me personally I spent a few previous years looking around festivals and camps looking and playing with other people's roofs untill I knew exactly what I wanted.

Then I was full educated on what I wanted before going to a roof supplier. And new what I was getting for the money's.

I went to HCC and they did an amazing job. I chose them because the actual tent want an upwell you get the best tent right off. All windows and fully opening as standard. And great quality. But the actual pop top itself is really good quality also and a great looking low profile roof i would definitely buy from them again

I have allll these considerations bouncing around in my head, thank you for such a meticulous response. I agree on the most part. I'm not a fan of the tubby van hat look and a slimline pop top would be great. I think it'll be HCC I use but not sure when. Need to get even more over time with work I reckon.

Hi/lo horizons are a little too tall for my liking. Haven't seen one up close and don't really see the benefit, it feels more like they're a niche trend and a little bit marmite. Would you have got one if the money was there? THQ and THQ affiliate suppliers always seem to do a 30% markup on anything they sell - i find it offputting and subsequently avoid buying from them where possible.

Too high - it got weird

theres a few that come to the meet ups that have the Horizon roof.

@Bav & @Skyliner33 spring to mind.

so I've seen them up close, and also seen them at Busfest etc,

yes they look a bit odd when up, and they are high, and yes you loose internal head-room.

but when they are down they look great.

next time round i would seriously consider them, but at a starting price of £6k and with extras around £9kor more, - our van didnt warrent that type of prium quality.

if i had a better van, then id concider it.

for our 2017/18 90K miles van the Vanmax was a good balance of looks/quality/price.

i see they (HCC) are doing the Ford Transporter roofs aswell now.

To be fair, they only tend to lose height at the rear of the van, where it’s not really needed or inconvenient.
They do look high when up, but what was an kmportant consideration for me is it was the only roof I could open the scenic canvas and sit upright on the bed board. Also less claustrophobic for sleeping.

There's also room for 2 adult-sized adults to sleep up there (bedboard is rated at 300kg), with enough headroom to sleep facing either the rear or the front of the van. It's also reassuring to know that the roof has been tested in 60mph winds... though, IMO, only a fool would have the roof up in such conditions.

I need to get a mattress for up top.
