VANMAX PopTop -- Awesome, then gone, now back again !! --

It's only Halifax guys as far as I know.

Might be best to call Michael and ask if anywhere local can fit one.

They will need to ship the new roofs down on pallets for the local firm to fit.

Or.

Find a local firm, locally to your

and ask them to deal with HCC and they the roof sent over.

I'll send them a link to this form you.

@Halifax poptops

I’d suggest giving Halifax a ring and seeing if they will supply you with one and maybe get your own fitter, or see if they have a recommended fitter near to you that they will supply a roof to.
They took over the Vanmax product but without the Vanmax branding.

Another happy customer here!
Although I need to nip through as it leaked on the first night, but strangely never again since.

get added to the list:

when and where did you get your floor fitted?
also any problems?
or tip and tricks?
any upgrades?
what do you using as a mattress in the roof?
cheers

Dell,
Add me to the list of Vanmax roof owners.

I must say I absolutely love this roof and for me the selling point is its low-profile appearance making it invisible to the untrained eye. I've had some people ask me if I'll be getting a pop-top fitted! 🤣

when and where did you get your floor fitted?
Had mine fitted by Halifax Camper Conversions in June 2023. Very nice and easy to deal with - just bloody miles away from me!

also any problems?
The finish to some of the carpeting isn't perfect and there are some areas where you can see the fiberglass. In particular the carpeting on the sliding panel hasn't lasted well but that's just me being picky.

There has recently been a new squeak when driving along over a rough road surfaces or bumps. I've worked out that its coming from one of the bed board gas struts rubbing on the carpet lining or something.

I also had the vamoose rail fitted by HCC - the front and rear rubbers eventually came off. I have re-stuck these with the same adhesive I used for the solar panel.

or tip and tricks?
I leave the straps in place when camping as they don't bother me and they make it easier to pull the roof back down when packing away.

any upgrades?
Only a 180w solar panel on the roof. I've drilled through the overhang at the back, covered with a gland and used a gap in the velcro to route the cables into the van.

what do you using as a mattress in the roof?
Outdoor Revolution Camp Star Rock n' Roll self-inflating bed (180 x 112cm x 10cm) & a 5 cm Zoned Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper.
I love it, very comfortable combo and you can even leave the self-inflating bed (without the foam topper) in the pop-top with the roof down once its deflated of course ! And only for a few days before it starts to self-inflate again.

Dell you can add me to the list.

Had our cheap and cheerfull (Badly fitted) roof replaced by Micheal and Lee at the start of Febuary 2026.

It was so bent and warped Lee was laughing when he was looking over it.

By far in my opinion the best roof to replace one that has already been fitted due to the cassette style base that goes all the way to the outer edge of the channels which can hide a multitude of sins. At some angles it doesnt even look like there is a poptop fitted.

Not many companies that I contacted to take on the work even bothered to reply.

when and where did you get your roof fitted?
February 2026.
The guys quoted 5 days but it was spread over 2 weeks as I dropped the van off and had work things in between.

also any problems?
No Issues as yet, cant see there being any compared to what i had before!
The van floor did need a really good clean after although the weather wasnt the greatest.

any upgrades?
Standard fit with new black canvas, lining and bedboard with lighting.
Had a single solar panel fitted to replace the original.
Colour coded.
Front cabin lined to match.
Arial fin moved from rear to the front.

what do you using as a mattress in the roof?
None yet but will update.
Other things id like to mention to anyone thinking about getting one fitted.

Im 6ft 3in and the van has a fixed RIB bed. There is a reduction in head height, I dont think I'd enjoy traveling in the back but once the roof and bed base are up its not a problem.

The bed space is MASSIVE compared to the old one it sits higher at the back less claustrophobic.

Their workshop is 10 minutes walk from Sowerby Bridge train station and its easy to get east or west to connections going up or down the country.
I traveled from Inverness

Any update? I love the low profile but wonder if Scottish winds an issue.

The New Boys (well original main local installers) are:

but @Bigsidavies come to the rescue with:

"Vanmax are now supplied by Halifax Camoer conversions. Just not naming them Vanmax at the moment from what I can work out on social media.
They used to be the main installer of the Vanmax roof prior to Vanmax stopping production of the VW roof.
Iain no longer does Vanmax for VW. I know that Halifax Camper Conversions supplies and fits the Vanmax roof but they don’t call it van max. But they were the main fitter of Vanmax roofs when Iain manufactured them.
A company had bought the van max brand but has done nothing with it, so I’m not sure how that aligns with Halifax Campers."

Thanks for all this info. I think I might be pushing the button on a colour coded pop top from Halifax Camper Conversions at some point in the coming months. Although i just found two new rust spots when detailing her today. Am torn on getting those sorted first or getting a pop top first.
