Our van needs a new engine and just wondering if anyone can please tell me what it is worth as it is?

2018 VW Transporter T6 BiTDI 204BHP KOMBI T30 Highline
65K Miles
Bought from VW at 4k miles (Ex demo)
All servicing done at VW
Full sportline kit fitted by VW from new.

Looks like the EGR cooler has failed and scored the bores.

Check out Baz Merediths video...

Darkside developments have made a few videos of this. They normally suggest a brand new crate engine that as the revised parts. I think this is around 10k.
So if selling, you may need to look at what vans similar sell for and knock off perhaps this amount for the the new engine costs. Not sure if it woukd be that easy to sell though.

Good luck either way you go.

I terms of value youll get, significantly more back by having it repaired and selling it rather than trying to shift it as a knacker. However, as chippie rightly points out, that could itself be a gamble if other ancillary items turn out to be required.

Value = What the running van would cost minus the parts and labour MINUS a massive chunk of £ for any buyer taking a risk / hassle to repair it after buying a van that they can’t test drive.
If you want to get some return then I would repair it if that’s an option.
That said there’s no harm in advertising for a stupidly high price and see what happens. I was having a conversation with a bloke the other day who had just spent his life savings on a 25 year old glass fibre boat……FFS!

But the way I think it’s absolutely piss poor how these early bi-turbo engines blow themselves up after such low milage and VW wipe there hands of it! Total shit show

Bought from VW, serviced at VW…..I’d be going back to VW! Doubt I’d going back to the chancers at Marshall though.

It is shocking. Seems so common I’m surprised that hasn’t been some kind of class action against VW on these failures
