Speaking to Steve, this appears to simply be a living only for him and I did not get a sense of passion about VWs from him. I spoke about the forum and he quickly distanced himself from forums (probably to stop me asking for a forum discount!). He stated that the majority of his business comes from businesses and maintenance contracts.

However, they did not unplug my dash cam when they went to work 10 mins after I dropped the van off and it started off with the basics; that being a light check. From that, a light (high level light on a barn door) wasn't working and Steve could be heard that it was probably a corroded fitting/cable (it was). I was impressed that they simply got on with the work and called the other over to assist them if it was a job needing a spare hand or pair of eyeballs.

The prices were cheaper than the dealer and not as cheap as some other non specialist garages. I normally service my own stuff and needed the cam belt and major service doing hence coming here, but I think I will be back if it's a big job. Genuine VW parts are used.

The prices (Feb 2020)

Cambelt kit and water pump (fitted)- £320 + vat
Full service - £190 + vat
Multi belt (fitted) - £24.07 +vat
High level repair fittings/cable (fitted) - £52.58 + vat

Total £704.74 inc vat

Thanks for taking the time to give details of your experience with them @widu13, very useful and informative. I have just had our campervan serviced and a first MOT done at SMG Tonbridge VW van centre. I found them to be very sniffy about our ‘non factory’ campervan conversion. Talked to the mechanic who was very stressed and clearly trying to get too much done in the time allowed for the job (from what he said to me).
Asked them for a quote on the cost of a timing belt and water pump for next year and was quoted the fixed menu price of £629.86 (not sure if this included VAT!).
I will definitely be going to Vantech next time. Thanks again. Andy
