Afternoon all.

Just in case this is of any interest to anyone planning something similar.
I’m also happy to receive any hits / tips / criticism / suggestions !!

So, I had my heart set on an Ovano Switch for my Kombi which would be ideal for work and play.
Not sure if I could get my Trans K9 crate on the top though without having the full bulkhead always in the up position, so thought I’d have a go at making my own set up using some unistrut that I had in the stores and living with a crude ply base to see how it goes.

This is a Friday afternoon effort for going away this week.

First set up. Will bolt though into the rear lashing points.
I was going to leave it floating at the back of the frame but should have thought to extend the rear cross section out further to bolt into the middle lashing points.

So shuffled everything forward a bit as didn’t have time to re-build the whole frame, added a bar across the back to secure it.

The frame has more movement in it than I was expecting but is still nice and secure, maybe some gusset brackets will firm it up a bit more, probably won’t ever get around to doing the at though!

As a result of moving everything forward a bit for the rear fixing bar it now comes a bit further forward than I wanted but no problem really.

Basic ply top fixed to the strut and set up so that mattress will lay flat when rear seats are down.

Will extend the last section of ply out to meet the end of the strut and hinge it so there is room to sit comfortably if required and load taller stuff in.

May look at adding a drawer in using unistrut rollers.

Lashing points bolted through to tie the dog crate down…

End caps will be fitted to the strut!!

Let’s see how it goes!
