UK speed limits (vehicle classification)

Hi
I'm a new member but not yet an owner.
We recently hired a VW California for a week and now we're hooked.
We're thinking of buying a Transporter conversion camper.
I understand that this will almost certainly be classified as a commercial vehicle.
Does that mean we will be limited to 50mph on A roads and 60mph on dual carriageways?
If so, is this enforced?
Has anyone been prosecuted for speeding like this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi there, glad you caught the bug. There is quite a few conversations on here about people fighting prosecution. I’m sure combi’s are exempt and same rules as cars apply.

The short answer is that the vehicle category (not class) is irrelevant, car limits apply to a camper.

Long answer requires a forum search and will keep you enthralled for hours.

You've been advised correctly above.
I've got a Kombi T30 4Motion, so commercial vehicle speed limits apply.
In my experience (so take this at your own risk!) most cameras whether manned or unmanned, are looking for vehicles travelling in excess of CAR LIMITS, unless you're driving a 44 tonne artic.
I must stress, this is not legal advice, just my experience.
I'm not irresponsible, but I fail to see why my empty T30 should have to travel slower than a fully laden T32 camper.

Yip. Yip. Yip. Yip. In response to original post. Well at least in my experience over in NI.

Someone will post the link to the consolidated info that has been captured.
