Tyre Changing Time (AGAIN!)

Hi folks, MOT due next week and once again I need new tyres! Fcuking potholes have demolished a third set of tyres and messed the alloys up again...

Im running 255-35-20 tyres on my Wolf Race wheels (T28) and wonder is anyone can point me to a decent set which aren't going to break the bank (potholes, you know).

Any help gratefully received! Thankies

PS: Garage said the front tyres are delaminating so I'm going to change them all, just in case.

I agree 18 inch wheels and appropriate premium rubber. Michelin CrossClimate 3 have just been launched and due on the streets 1st July they are bringing out 2 types of Michelin CrossClimate 3, one of them more sporty and in some eyes better looking than the other. I think that they will resurrect their top spot in the tyre tests. Have your tracking checked and stay away from the banded look. Even consider for longer term having suspension components changed to top end dampers and springs not the slammed end of things. :)

I recently purchased Goodyear 245/45r20 (103 load rated) from a well known ‘National’ tyre fitters at £690 for all four, as they had a 15% off offer on. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6’s. Miles better than the converters original cheap hedge finder 275/40r 20’s.

I'm a big fan of eagle f1's

Like mentioned above something with a bigger sidewall than the 35's will help to soak up the bumps .

What make of tyres are 'delaminating' currently?

12k miles into my CC2 suv's, I think they are great. On 20's with 245/45 on front and 275/40 on rear. A tall enough sidewall to not have any issues like I did when on 35 profile (2 cracked rims on those). It'll be CC3's for me in 20,000 or 3 years time.

Spending considerable money on big alloys and then considering cheap(er) tyres would not be my order of priority.

I agree on the advice to go to 19" or 18" with good premium rubber (Michelin, Goodyear, Conti, Bridgestone etc.). This will improve the ride considerably.
I see some cheapo tyre brands passing by here that I have to Google as I didn't even know they existed. Many people still seem to think tyres are only black hoops of rubber to keep the rims off the ground. Only just on 20"... 🙃

I keep my fingers crossed that the new CC3 Sport will be available in my 255/45-R18 size (but I doubt it). If so, they'll be the first AS tyres I want to try. Right after summer.

Well I hope that you can have them in your size. They make CC2 255/45R18 so should do that size in CC3 trying to find out but nothing yet.

The MICHELIN CrossClimate 3 Sport willbe available in 30 dimensions, rim sizes 18-21", the largestbeing 295/35 R21 107Y from 1 July
2025.

Goodyear Eagle F1 for me also 265/45 R20 103 fairly new so wait and see on the milage
Hi, why is this size so much cheaper than the 245/45/20? Is it just how many are produced? Are these going to be okay for my van also? I previously ran 255/35/20s

If I’m honest I’m not sure why there cheaper!
I had this size previously when I bought it was on Yokohama also a good tyre just thought I’d have a change. I’m lowered around 60mm on bilstein komforts I find them a nice ride with little road noise

What tyre pressure do you have?

Hang a minute while I get my asbestos overalls on….nearly there, just need to get my other arm in….there, done. Ok, 20” wheels and rubber bands for tyres, and then complaining about wheel damage & tyre delamination…Classic case of form over function, these are commercial load carriers, not high performance sports cars. Get some sensible tyres & wheels on the thing. Your wallet/back/vehicle will thank you in the long run.

I have air suspension LV kit, 20" wheels.
More looks than Jessica Rabbit walking down the street naked! It is a lifestyle.
