I want to convert it to have a bed, sink, stove.
pull a two horse trailer , specs,

The trailer is constructed with aluminium floor and sidewalls and runs on the renowned Pullman 2 suspension system. Internal dimensions are 4.90m x 2.07m x 2.30m (LxWxH) with a gross weight of 3500 kg and carrying capacity of 2050 kg.

is the 2009 Kombi T6 able to cope. Automatic diesel.
does this one come with the Four motion?

My crystal ball is in for service, so you’ll have to give more info.
Engine?
Chassis- t28/30/32?
4motion, yes and no, you tell us what you’ve got.

As an example, I tow a 2000kg boat/twin axle trailer combo with a fully converted 2017/204/dsg/4mot/LWB/t32. It tows fine with power to spare.

Diesel automatic , 4 motion
need to pull trailer of 900kg
two horses 1000kgs
do I need a tow package on the vehicle?
or just attach a tow bar?

Just attaching a tow bar doesn't give you trailer lights and indicators, life isn't that simple! You need a tow bar and electrics.
I assume you passed your driving test pre 1997 or have since taken and passed a trailer test?
If it's a 2009 Transporter (as you state in post 1) it's not a T6, the T6 came in in late 2015.
How much towing experience do you have? Towing live animals in a trailer is a big responsibility, I'm sure you want to get it right.

150bhp will handle the load you describe just fine.

All other elements of towing you need are driver dependent and I cannot offer an assessment of those

A gross trailer weight of 3500kg exceeds the towing capacity of all versions of the transporter.

You're right, but the OP states that the trailer is 900KG, the horses are 1000KG, which is within limits for some T6's, if not all. It's the actual weight towed that matters, not the maximum weight that the trailer is plated at.

From which year does the trailer assist an option on the transporter?
I have not towed horses, just a boat.

Judging by VW press releases, it looks like Trailer Assist came in on the T6.1, so 2020 I believe.

The requirement to take a trailer test has just been dropped.

Trailer assist is an aid for people who don’t know how to tow or load a trailer. What’s more relevant is the engine output of the vehicle in question, which you still haven’t told us. I assume that you’re looking at a specific vehicle, as you’ve already mentioned a 2009 Kombi.

Every day is a school day. I thought it was the plated weight.

I tow my race car on a trailer which is only 1400kg + some weight in the van. When it was only 102hp I really struggled and I was down to 45mph on some motorway hills. Doing a hill start was almost impossible and I feared for the clutch.

Note I'm using 20" wheels - 275/35/20 tyres.

I've had it remapped to the most I could for a 5speed box, and its just about ok. I would like the 6speed box so I can map some more low down torque. If I was buying another van, I would go for a 200hp van only. 4 wheel drive would be nice for when I go off road biking and park in muddy quarries etc. My budget wouldn't stretch to that at the time, as I wasn't saving or planning on buying a van but my old T5 went pop. My T5 was a 6speed 2.5 170hp and that towed great,.
