The old leaky window problem.

I purchased a 2017 Kombi a month ago and am in the process of stripping out and insulating as the start of a conversion. When I lifted the floor mat the floor pan was quite wet. I have heard stories of VW leaky windows previously so suspect that is the source. Do they leak if they are not firmly closed or do they just leak generally? Are there any steps that I can take to remedy the problem other than replacing them?

Are you talking about in cab area? I’d check your roof rail bolts these normally cause a bit of leakage

Can either take them out and seal with a bit of rtv or replace the washers with some soft rubber ones if you do it with washers pop a bit of soap on first stop them twisting up on tightening, seen a couple with cab area leaks under the floor mat and it runs down the inside of the b post and out at the bottom

The damp is in the rear area so I suspect that the rear side windows are the cause. Good shout with the roof rails, I am taking of the rails and have new blanking screws on order.

Clean the rubber and drain holes and lubricate, that should help reduce the leaking, it’s a very poor design, the rubber is not thick enough to make a good seal, I found also that when the window shuts it slots inside a black trim, this is just stuck on with double sided tape so flexes, I stuck some plastic strips between this and the metal frame, this pushes the black trim over and makes the window shut tighter, not leaked since, did this before the carpet lining so is completely hidden
