If there's a comparison to be made look at the original Landrover Defender (pre 2016 ish), a vehicle with a similar following.I probably wouldn’t have mentioned this if the EV chat hadn’t threatened to destroy an otherwise decent thread![]()
But I’ll try & bring it back on track a bit with something I’ve been wondering about recently.
Im interested to see how THQ, or any other businesses whose eggs are firmly placed in the Transporter Modification basket, will move forward…
If the current public opinion persists (and I’ve not seen any real change in the disgust from the communities on any Social Media pages) & that transpires to low enthusiast uptake on the new Transporter, I’d imagine the costly production of upgrades for that particular model won’t prove to be very profitable either. Fleet and lease markets won’t be interested in the bolting on of various aesthetic upgrades.
I wonder if the focus will remain on bringing new items for the T6 & T6.1 (good news for a lot of us here I guess) and still mainly cater to the die hards. But ultimately that would be on what will soon start to become an ageing platform.
Interesting months ahead I’m sure…

Values for decent ones held up very well after it was discontinued and still do.
There are still plenty of aftermarket spares, accessories and mods available 9 years later.
We'll have to rename you Clickbait Gordon!Does show you what a hot potato the subject of EV’s is.
That whole EV thread act started itself with an off the cuff comment I made.
It’s like a gazillion pages long now.
Wow.This evening I mostly spent with a chap who is a working share holder of a well established and well regarded Transporter T5 / T6 converter company.
They have several unsold converted T7's in stock but have sold none.
He says demand for T6's and T6.1's is strong but nobody wants the wet belt engined T7.
Wow.
Car salesman complains cars aren’t shifting fast enough.
Inspirational.
Can we just clarify here what we mean by the T7. The T7 is the multi van , people carrier brought out a few years ago to replace the Sharen and the Caravelle? And on which the new Californias are been built on. The new Transporter is not called a T7 by VW, and is the Ford Transit with VW badge and wet belt etc. Or,am I wrong.
No, you are absolutely correct. VW are not manufacturing the new Transporter themselves and thus are not extending the T designation to it.Can we just clarify here what we mean by the T7. But you insure the vehicle reg number when you start your quote.People are going to start learning a painful lesson when they tell insurers they have a T7 when in fact they have a Tranporter and they need to make an expensive clclaim.
You do indeed, but if the words that comes out your mouth are "T7" that is what the operator will type in the description box when they add details of the conversion. But you insure the vehicle reg number when you start your quote.
So what is the official name then? Surely it's not just Transporter? Transporter V7?They aren't T7s, and it's dangerous at several levels to keep describing them as such.
there was plenty of that last evening.Childish.
Could that possibly be that they are unsure about the reception, its relationship with ford or that they might move on when full battery power becomes mandatory and something else is on the way and new marketing strategies. Car names are funny old things, I see things with Range Rover written on them but to my mind they are anything but! Does it really matter?ATM it’s just called the new Transporter
