As per title. Sorry I don’t have a picture. I guess that if you know, you know!

Cheers

On the dash? Usually the sun sensor for the climate control I think?

On top of dash on edge nearest screen. What I have just looks like a useless piece of plastic but then that would make sense, as I don’t have climate. Thanks.

Looks like this on mine, with climate.

What's it used for? Would have thought it would have been used for activation of the lights, rather than anything to do with climate control?

I’m gonna have another look. Useless plastic or not, I can confirm we are talking about whatever I have in that area. Thanks for the pictures - saved me a job.

It's definitely plastic but the sensor behind it is only really visible in direct sunlight.

Sun sensors are used by climate control systems. When you set it to something like 20.0c it doesn't really control to that temperature instead it controls to what people feel that temperature should be.

If it's sunny you'll feel warmer from the sunlight so generally the Aircon will aim to cool the cabin a bit more than it would at the same setting on a cloudy day.

Think if it another way, the sun heats you up directly like those radiant heaters outside pubs and cafes without heating the air. Same happens in the vehicle so if the climate control only used the air temperature it would miss the fact you are also being heated by the sun, hence the sun sensor.

99.5% certain mine is just a blanking plate. No climate as mentioned earlier. Not checked rear view mirror but I assumed sensors for auto lights and wipers are in there as was on my A3.
