What is this hole for in the left hand sill below the sliding door?

Does anyone know what this hole in the sill is for and why it does’t have a bung in it, like every other hole does?
I only noticed this hole this week because it’s usually hidden by the plastic under-tray.
It’s quite different to all the other holes too - as it has this reinforced outer layer across the outside of the matching hole in the main inner layer.
There is an access panel in the plastic under-tray to access this hole but I’ve no idea why (off I go to RTFM again.)
It almost looks like a jacking point but I don’t think it could be strong enough for that. It seems bizarre to have this open hole when every other hole is plugged, and we’re trying to minimise dust getting inside the van.

Looks like it's lost the bung judging by the one adjacent to it and the light orangey/brown circle around it presumably from where it was.

-Make one bung out of silicon/Sikaflex.
-Take care to clean all around with alcohol or solvent before.
-Forget it.

Yeah I know I can put a bung in it - that’s on my list now I’ve finished installing our new water tank, but I’d quite like to know why this one hole has the extra reinforcement and an access panel to get at it.
I’m not sure it did have a bung before - i did clean it up a bit before the photo to try and see if it looked like it had one. So the different colours are also where I rubbed it.
Now I’m gonna have to go down to the dealers and find a T6 to look under… 😂

You have got me curious too now. As you said there is a panel in the plastic tray, implying the hole is for something - maybe a retractable step like some crafters have?

Step 1 - I’m gonna look at a few to see if they all have it.
I can’t picture how this would work for a step, maybe it rotates around this point?

I am sure plastic trim / under tray clips into it it. I would have to have a look under van to be 100% sure

I’d be tempted to leave it open, in my part of the world water always goes down. Better out than in.

I wouldn't.
What get sprayed UP from the road is not always spring water. It is a big hole. Mud an salt could accumulate inside the cavity behind that hole, and help corrosion.

Apparently some models have a clip in the under tray that clips into that hole but not ours - the access panel is well clear of the body along there.
I asked Kombi Life Australia and they sent a photo of the tray with clip into that hole, but that's totally different to our plastic tray.

Did they say what the hole was actually for?

I will check if my van has a bung or not (need to take the under tray off to do that)

They said the hole was to hold the access panel! How wonderfully recursive!
You should not have to take the whole tray off - unless you don’t have the access panel. ?

I had a look at mine - just put my hand under the plastic tray to feel it, and it does not have a bung in it. nor does the access panel clip into it.

I can only think it is for some accessory we don't have installed - still curious.
I guess it won't be a big issue as the plastic undertray cover protects it from ingress of raod muck.

Its just a rubber bung missing. I popped mine off when I fitted side steps as the brackets fit the holes.

It’s been a while since I had my sliding door apart but on the T6 there’s a tundish under the door handle mechanism because it lets rain in. There is a flexible hose attached to the tundish running to the bottom of the door to drain the water.
Has it got anything to do with this drain?
