T6 ABS Rear Right Wheel Speed Sensor

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and hoping for some advice please. I have recently tried to resolve what I thought to be a classic ABS/ESC rear right wheel speed sensor fault by replacing the sensor with a compatible (I think?) RIDEX Plus component (https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ridex-plus/19290962?search=RIDEX PLUS ABS sensor (412W0153P)).

Replacing the rear right sensor cleared the initial faults but leaves me with 'Incorrect competent installed' and the warning lights still active.... The real time monitoring on VCDS also shows that the rear right wheel speed is still not matched with the other three (wildly different), so something still isn't right. I also note the date is no correct post swapping the sensor, is that a problem? :(

So my question is where do I go from here please?

Take this with a grain of salt but the sensor lists compatibility with WHT 003 856 B which would mean it's a bi-directional sensor, although it's not specifically spelled out in part details.

I just recently upgraded both my rear ABS sensors to bi-directional ones as a part of retrofit work and got, I think, the same error, also described here: (Side Assist) / (Blind Spot Detection & Rear Cross Traffic Alert) retrofit

If not going with exact OEM part I would also change both rear sensors - as with most parts it makes sense to keep axles symmetrical.

Has anyone had to drill out an ABS sensor? Changed the right rear a while ago having to tug the broken part out. The left rear has broken inside the hole about 8mm down.
Will any swarf drop down and damage anything?

I’ve just last week changed one and google suggests they can break off. One post inserted a thinish wood screw and used a pry bar to pull out the remnants. Its just the sensor in a hole with the rotating bit of the hub at the bottom with a load of raised ‘teeth’ to trigger the sensor.

That was one long dremel session… dremeling lifted bits of plastic upwards. I was then able to get little bit of grasp of them with needlenose pliers and eventually got the lip out. Soaked with wd40 of course.

What many how to’s don’t tell you is to take the rubber cover off the inside of the hub and push out the sensor….. I found this out after fighting the broken stub with drills and screws for half an hour. Then noticed the cover, pushed and it popped out without issue. For sure my fight from above May have helped loosen it. But no one said go from this inside. I guess if you have 4motion then not so simple.
 
Easiest way is what @CarreraRSR says. Pop the black plastic bit off the back of the hub and you can see the bottom of the sensor poking through. A flat bladed screwdriver on it and give it a few taps with a hammer and they normally release easily.
 
Can’t see the black plastic bit on mine, 4motion, but heated screw and claw hammer worked !!
