Alpine Halo 905 with Alpine APF-X303VW

Hi Folks,

I have installed a new head unit but for the life of me I can't get the steering wheel mute button to work. I have the alpine can bus module but it doesn't seem to allow me to activate it or do anything to make it work.

Anyone have any ideas. I have vcds as well but can't find anyway of activating it in there either.

Also have a couple of strange issues when I scan the van.

What age , model is it ? And do you have a picture of the steering wheel

Hi. The van is a 2016 t6 highline. The Alpine is a ILX-F905D that was bought in 2025

VCDS is basically just showing you do not have the original head unit in.

The interface is alpine’s newer interface which is around 3 years old, and it does its best to work with all T5/T6 , Polo, Golf, Passat etc basically the range of Vw vehicles, so occasionally as it’s a universal interface a feature may not work the same as factory.

You could try unplugging the interface for secs to see if it programs itself to the ‘Can’

That’s good to know about the Vcds scan and all of the other buttons work it’s just the mute that doesn’t. I’m happy to live with it if it can’t be made to work but it niggles me

I’m not sure whether it matters but mine is an early one so my steering wheel controls are simpler than the later ones. I’m guessing it’s not something that can be coded with VCDS
