T6.1 Tailgate Release Handle

Hi All,

Apologies if this has been asked before I’ve done some searching etc and couldn’t find any info on this, new to all this forum lark !

I have a 2023 T6.1 High-line Panel Van. It has the locked/barrel version of the tailgate release handle, at the moment it’s not an issue but I’m in the process of converting it to a camper.
So therefore I want to replace the tailgate release handle with the locking barrel to the non barrel version and also fit the OEM tailgate release switch on the inside of the tailgate to open it from inside so I don’t have to get out the van to open it from the outside (lazy I know).

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to do this with the handles and if there’s any extra work involved other then removing the handle with the barrel and replacing it with the non barrel version. Also then what is required for fitting the OEM tailgate release switch for the inside ( what would be required to do this with OEM parts)

Did you ever get this done ?

I posted along time ago about this and apparently you can just change the painted metal cover, this loses the lock barrel and looks like the handles that have always been on the t6

You can also just overlay it with one of these.

Yes, two ways. You can either buy the carrier, switch assembly and cover and replace the whole lot, or just buy the cover have that colour coded and remove the lock barrel from then handle and put the cover over it. 2nd way is cheaper but means you have the hole behind it where the barrel was. Not that you can see it and looks the same from. The outside. Thats what I had done by Bognor, was a bit cheaper as used what was there already.
The cover is held in with tape but also two screws from the inside so don't just pull it off.

I’m going to be attempting this int he next few months hopefully after a few other bits are out the way inside the van, also still trying to find out if the OEM inside tailgate release switch can be fitted too to open the tailgate from the inside if anyone knows if this is possible
