T6.1 discover media satnav upgrade and headunit location.

Hi folks, I was hoping someone maybe able to give me a nudge in the right direction please.

I have a t6.1 with basic composition media.
Now for me, I like to keep most retrofits oem as possible. This will include upgrading to the discover media satnav and eventually digital dash.

I have searched but have failed to see how this head unit is installed in the transporter. The only conclusion I have come to, is that it is potentially in the same place as that on my previous caddy 5. Fitted to some sort of bracket behind the glovebox, center console. Screen is separate and in usual spot.

I don't suppose anyone can confirm this to me please?

I understand I will need the part to be married to my vans vin, SWap codes enabled and CP confirmed. My van to as SoS module. From the wiring looks like I will need an additional ethernet wire 2core link from unit to digi dash for satnav maps on cluster.

Hoping I have not over looked anything else.

With a clearer head, I managed to find a post on here. It is situated in the same place that my caddy 5 headunit was.
Behind glovebox and centre console on a designated bracket by the looks of it.

I updated MIB3 Discover Media on my T6.1. It was necessary to change the eCall module and add Ethernet cabling to receive GPS coordinates. Obviously, you need an unlocked MIB3 with activated maps and unlocked functions.

Did you manage to get round the error on the SOS unit with the eCall module?

I am going to go the mib2 discover media route. This way my sos module does not need to be replaced.

No, the module I installed is from another vehicle. I'm getting a CP error that can be cleared with ODIS online. I adapted it to my car's configuration, and that's all. It's not possible to activate the license or online services even though the module is new because my car didn't have this option in its factory settings. The LED light was flashing red, so I deactivated it with OBDeleven. I've lost the emergency call function, but I'm keeping the old eCall module in case I need to reinstall it in the future. It's relatively easy.

I considered the MIB2 option, but I already had the MIB3 unit purchased, and wireless CarPlay and losing the USB Type-C configuration made me continue with the MIB3.

I know that it is possible to get rid of the SOS red flashing error, but very few people are able to do it, and therefore its obviously a closely regarded secret.

If you simply want to turn off the red LED, you can do it with an OBD ODIS or VCDS. Just select the option for the 3-button roof module as not installed. Then, if you want to replace the eCall module with a new one, that's also possible, and you can reactivate the emergency call function and the green LED once configured, but you'll never have CarNet active. The price for a new eCall module is around €1000, I think. Crazy!

I agree with you; I think companies specializing in retrofits have a way of doing it, but I highly doubt they'd want to share the secret. I respect it; it's their job. Hopefully, someone will soon post the solution for everyone on some forum.

Apparently the solution is a bit of hardware to flash the SOS module. So I dont think it will ever be a solution for everyone. Thats all I know.
