Hi All,

I'm looking for some of the hidden/flush fitting type roof rails that VW call guide rails. Looking to get a hard kayak to replace an inflatable and it's too long to go in the van so it has to go on top. I'm not interested in fitting normal roof rails, I want these hidden ones. That way I can add bars whenever I need to transport the kayak and slide them out again when I'm done, leaving just the hidden rail in place.

Part numbers are as follows and there's a pic below, but I guess anyone who has some will know what I'm on about.

Just a thought, but have you considered the T5 roof bars? They just fix into the holes and can be removed each time leaving no visible sign. They also sit fairly high so the tailgate opens fully which I couldn't do when I had my Kayak on the T6 rails and cross bars that sat low and were more 'bendy'.

I had thought about that Paul, but I was worried about how watertight the fixing points would be when fitting and removing probably once a week or so. I wanted to be able to fit the guide rails and ensure a watertight fitment and just leave them there.

I’d also be interested in these!! Didn’t know they were a thing! I’ve found them online but boy are they expensive

Im going, roof rails, then fitting standard cross bars which can be easily removed, the advantage being flexible on where they fit allowing for longer spacing for long OC1 or downwind paddle board, closer together if I want the short board, or indeed a roof box. had this set up on my T4 and it worked perfectly.
