Struggling to get a reasonable insurance quote

Hi everyone, I’ve just purchased a camper conversion and I’m struggling to get a reasonable insurance quote. I’ve had to call up every insurance firm as the online forms don’t work for the fact my van is technically classified as a car, but has camper modifications.

Im based in South-West London, have had my license for 12 years and have 4 years NCD. I would be doing 8,000 annual mileage Social domestic and pleasure.
The van is a 17-plate registered as a diesel car on the V5 and a Volkswagen transporter T30 SE TDI BMT S-A. The previous seller told me it was originally a mobility vehicle that they converted into a van. It has a professional pop top conversion but the inside cabinets/tap/hobs/rock n roll bed were fitted by the previous seller (bed has been crash test certified).

I’ve read around the forum and tried recommended insurance places:
Adrian flux quoted £1400
Just Kampers quoted £1400
Comfort campers said that they don’t insure in London
Howdens quoted over £4000
Brentacre offered £800 with markerstudy but this forum seems to have mixed reviews with them and the policy wording seemed vague and like they were likely to dispute claims.
Admiral quoted £880 but when told it was classified as a car on the V5 they said that the camper conversion part couldn’t be covered.
LV, Greenlight and RAC all won’t insure.

Reading online it looks like it’s difficult to change the V5 classification with the DVLA these days (there’s a blog that says 5% of requests are approved)?
Has anyone had the same vehicle/been in the same position and managed to get a reasonable quote? Or does anyone have any other good insurances recommendations?

Thanks all, appreciate it

I suspect that your postcode probably has a lot to do with it, and Comfort Campers response that they don't insure in London supports that theory.
As you have 4 years NCD, was insuring previous vehicles expensive?

I understand the potential issue with the postcode, there are other vans/T6's on neighbouring roads.
Have a 2019 Hyundai I20 at the moment and renewal is £385 fully comp.

Try Insurd......

Just renewed at £217 with them
My insurance is due next month. So I'll get price from them also ..Been driving for 45ish years never had claim apart from windscreen. Plus many companies only go up to 9 Years NCD.
What about all them previous years..

Have you tried knocking on their doors and asking who they are insured with and how much they are paying. You'll get some idea of the rates in your area.
Just to update everyone, saw a few T6's around but they weren't camper conversions, asked one guy who was eating a chippy tea outside his van and he was with Hastings but he was more interested in his chips and curry sauce than answering my questions.

Anyway, some good news is called Adrian Flux today and the price had dropped from £1400 to £1150 with Ageas, no reason as to why but I'm not complaining as I promptly accepted that. Hopefully everything goes swimmingly and it will drop next year...Now onto mattress toppers and other van accessories!
