Strange buzzing relay.

I have a T6 - 2017 that used to be a taxi. A while back when unlocking my vw transporter with the remote, (central locking) a loud buzzing sound came from a small box mounted in the ceilings edge towards the middle of the van. When remotely locked again, it stopped. I eventually located the buzz and dug it out of the upholstery (the van was converted to camper and it was carpeted closed within the metal frame) unplugged it to stop the buzzing and drive again. There were no warning lights after unplugging it and I have been driving normally ever since I pulled it out. What could this box be and why did it start buzzing all of a sudden for no reason? Its still a mystery.

Something to do with taxi equipment; retractable step etc. Incredible that anybody would leave uninsulated and loose 12v equipment in a van.
Keep digging, I presume it wasn’t a professional conversion.

Thanks for your comment. The camper van conversion company just left it in place and covered it with upholstery. The picture is of the component i yanked out of the covering what was not reachable, so it was insulated and covered properly when in place. I dont think it was a retractable step at the back because there used to be gas bottles in the back. (It was converted from gas to petrol before i baught it). I think the relay was not factory fitted because the wiring was different and external to the VW taped up roll of wires within the metal structure... I just wish I knew what the heck it was for. It buzzed when the van was unlocked only - do you think it was some kind of alarm system or tracking device considering it was part of a fleet of taxis?

That doesn’t look like a relay, it’s some sort of mechanical buzzer. A warning buzzer for the door maybe?

It did give me the impression it was made to warn... but it was silent for months and then all of a sudden started buzzin when i unlocked the car. (no door open - just unlock.) - It really puzzling but i dont want to rip up more upholstery to follow the wires it was attached to... Everything is working so Ill just leave it with a ?
