The other day....

Hmm, thought I took pics of the new bag?

Anyway it all fits in very nice.

I cut off the arms and straps as I wont need to the backpack aspect of it.... That will stop them getting tangled on everything.

But all fits as intended.

Is the UK a single country?! I mean Scotland is oot of this world! Is the old £50 tariff still available for you Europe trotters? £39 is good for homebirds like me!
Yes. The £50 Roam is shown as Private package.

And the £39 is shown as a business option, might try it for a while?

Im currently toying with Starlink but finding all this confusing too...so to clarify....

1. Buy Starlink mini package...anything from £160 at Currys to...alot more elsewhere.....get all set up etc etc

2. Defer buying the 50g data package until next spring when we shall start using for a few weeks...all good?

3. Once home pause the data usage and pay £4.50 pm..,,,,.or use all the remaining data and start again when we set off on another trip with a new 50g data package thereby avoiding the period of inactivity of several months and the £4.50pm ??

Sounds simple in theory but....

Yes

Pritty much.

Buy the kit whenever.

Start you're first month whenever, that starts your monthly rolling plan.

After first £50 month, drop to standby £4.50.

Then bump back up to roam any time you wish, pro rata, till your billing day.

Or cancel, and restart the contact when you like.

A quick google says only if you buy direct from Starlink do you have to activate straight away as thats when billing starts......
It was indeed bought direct from Elon. At least I know it works well suckered onto my conversatory roof. It will be on standby when my first month is complete, until I need it. I am genuinely impressed with it so far.

Naturally after you get it, you have to buy the useful carry case/bag that @Dellmassive recommended, £20 odd, and I bought a swivelly suckered tripod mount to attach to the front high end of the poptop when up, £20 odd again. I will need to get another 5m power cable, probably to my Bluetti in the awning which has a more powerful 100 watt usb C output. It's currently using (bizarrely) 20 odd watts when in use. So far so very good.

It’s just a reliable 100mbps ish data link all over the world for example outside of Europe eg Dubai EE want £10 a day roaming charges when starlink tech gets built into phones it will be a game changer for roaming

You mean like the Tesla Pi Phone.

If that is a thing I think it’s just an internet rumour but as soon as there is such a device that allows a starlink data link when out of normal phone coverage or while roaming it will be a winner, mobile network operators aren’t going to like it though

I'm not sure I buy into them being able to port over to mobile data in its current form.

The whole reason it works in the way it does where mobile data struggles is by getting a connection to a bunch of spy satellites in the sky. While it doesn't need to be in full clear view of the sky it definitely starts to effected by covering.

How that's going to work on a device buried in your pocket surrounded by steel, bricks and other signal blocking material I'm not so sure.

Yeh definitely has its challenges but for data when out and about or in an emergency it’s perfect or for browsing internet while sat round the pool when you have the device in your hand perfect
