Soundproofing the cab roof

Evening all. Just started my build on my T6 Kombi. As I’m waiting on my pop top to be fitted I thought I’d get on with the cab area.

When it comes to soundproofing the roof area do most people soundproof and insulate or just soundproof? Also is removing the headlining tricky in any particular way or is it just patients and trim tools for the cab?

I’ve watched my fair share of YouTube how-to’s, especially Combe Valley which is very helpful. Haven’t come across a roof insulating video yet though.

Thanks all.

That’s perfect, thanks! Same colour as mine too.

I just fitted my swivel base for the front twin bench seat today and wanted to tackle the roof after but ran out of time.

Did mine at weekend, sun visors off, two screws in the light then just ease it away. I dyed the cab liner whilst it was offView attachment 109741View attachment 109742View attachment 109743View attachment 109744

Is that dodo thermal fleece you are using may I ask? I’ve just done the sound deadening in the cab roof today (thanks for the tips!). Just wondering what thickness you are using in the fleece? I’m using the thicker of the two options everywhere currently. Want to make sure that there’s enough room to put my insulation layer and the fleece before I go ahead and stick it. I’m using thermal liner pro 10mm.

I used 2mm silent coat, 12mm dodo super liner then the 35mm polyester (recycled plastic) fleece insulation. When refitting the cab roof I had to trim down the little sponge spacer on the overhead cubbyhole.

I decided to remove the cab head liner to improve the converters sound deadening and insulation, I found they had used pieces of 2mm Silent Coat and self adhesive sheets of Solar ......? which were about 5mm thick.
I added 10mm self adhesive acoustic foam all over and just forward of the B pillars I managed to get 20mm of acoustic foam.
Both A pillar trims were then lined with 10mm acoustic foam.
On the transverse beam above the windscreen I used some string to pull a length of re-cycled polyester insulation through.
It has made a big reduction to the cab noise, no doubt as the noise generated is right next to my ear hole.
Putting the head liner back is much easier with two people, definitely easier to remove than install.

Hi I have some spare Dodo Deadn Hex mat and Dodo Pro Liner.

Wondering if I should apply any of these on the A Pillars and B pillars..and if its best to apply to the plastic covers or onto the metal work.

Any tips or advice welcomed

Thanks

Garry

I had the A pillar covers off so applied some 10mm foam to the back of the covers.
It’s going to reduce road noise but not by a noticeable amount, however it all adds up.
IMO the main areas to concentrate on noise reduction other than the rear body shell are:
Scuttle
Wheel arch liners
Doors
Cab roof.
In that order.
