Smoke/CO monitor recommendations

Hello, newbie here. We have just picked up our newly converted T6 and looking at smoke and carbon monoxide monitors. Does anyone have any recommendations? Is it better to go combined? And can we place it at the end of the long light/cupboard above the sink?

thanks!

I’ve got a combined Kidde one. It’s an optical (not ionisation) alarm with a CO monitor. You’d be advised to consider the impact of cooking/steam if you mounted it too near your hob/cooker if you have one.

I’ve mounted mine on the end of the cupboard, behind the driver’s headrest. Not sure if it’s the best position, so you should check it’s suitable before you mount yours. I remove the battery when travelling, which is easy on this as the door hinges out, but it grips the battery so it doesn’t fall out.

I have a CBE CO2 detector and a off the shelf domestic smoke detector. No gas detector as no gas used.
IMO the smoke detector is often overlooked but sleeping in such a small volume it really needs to be there.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but seemed appropriate to post here rather than starting something new.

I believe I know the answer to this but wanted to check before I pull everything apart.

Similar to most, all of my electrics are stowed under the driver and passenger seat. I have run all my 12v cabling to the rear of the van spurring off where needed for tap, fridge, lights etc etc.

My issue is when listing all my outputs I overlooked something and have forgotten to run a 12v supply to the CO monitor. Does this require its own dedicated 12v supply or can I common this up with another 12v supply, I have listed other 12v supplies below within my installation;

12v LED lights (Don't want to run it off this)
12v Fridge (Don't want to spur from this)
12v gas valve solenoid kit (Is there a potential to spur from this to feed the CO monitor?)
2 no. USB outlets

If I have to pull the panels again and open up all my conduit I can but just looking for other options prior to this.

Thanks for any help or confirmation that I need to pull the panels off again.

It won’t draw much current so you could spur it off either of the last 2 in your list.
Just check your fuses aren’t too close to the actual current drawn.

Thanks @Pete C - if I was to spur it off I thought something low current draw would be ideal like the 2 in the list you’ve suggested. I know sometimes it frowned upon but thank you for confirming. Saves pulling it all apart and trying to get a single core through the B pillar.

Serves me right for not pulling through 1 or 2 spares.
