Sliding door contacts not engaging correctly causing door to not lock - HOW TO FIX IT

Hi everyone,

This might come in handy for you if you are closing your sliding door and it doesn't lock when you press the key to lock the van.

My door sometimes would lock and other times it wouldn't. Recently it was unable to lock in almost every case. Only a firm close would enable the contacts to engage and I knew this wasn't a good idea because a too enthusiastic closing action will stress the door handle and other things.

So to fix it I removed the two sections with 6 contact terminals in. The one on the door goes into the recessed section in the van body. Both unscrew with a T30 bit. When the two sections meet all 6 contacts should touch which then enables the lock module to engage and lock the door.

If one or more contacts don't make a circuit, then your door won't lock.

Once the sections had been removed, I cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner and gently sanded the door contactor with 600g wet and dry paper. This polished them up well.

Then I soldered a blob of solder on each of the body contactor terminals. I used decent flux first to get a good solder blob stuck to the terminals.

Once reconnected, the door now locks every time and I no longer need to make a big effort to shut it either. Nice and steady does it from now on which is much better.

Took me less than an hour to sort this.

Doing this should avoid the need to purchase a new pair of contacts. After many repeated opening and closing operations, the terminals become slightly worn and you only need a tiny misalignment to prevent good contact.
