Sliding door cable?

Hi all,

I’m looking to fit a carpet lined panel to the sliding door, I just had a question about the cable towards the back of the door.

I presume this is needed if I wanted to retrofit electric sliding? If not please correct me?

Anyway how important is it? As it stands it will foul my panel, I was wondering about just tucking it inside out if the way?

My van doesn’t have them but I thought it was a manual override/emergency release ?

So I guess it’s up to you if you want to keep it or not
