Skyline Pop Top Solar Cable Routing - Any Advice?

Hi everyone,

I'm in the middle of converting my 2018 LWB VW T6 with a Skyline pop-top and I'm planning ahead for solar.

I'm just about to start installing the electrical system, so I'd like to run the solar cable now before the furniture is fitted ready for the solar.

I've spoken to someone who installs Skyline roofs and they said they normally route the cable from the solar panel, through the rear shell of the pop-top, down behind the rear Velcro section of the canvas and into the van.

Has anyone done it this way?

If so, do you have any photos of the install?

Also what size panels and any advice on good quality panels?

Thanks in advance!

See above images. 15mm hole in SWB skyline pop top outside tent. Inside face sealed to prevent water ingress to roof plywood core. Scanstrut double cable gland. Cables routed through velcro joint inside tent and across into poptop frame just in front of D Piller. Cables inside flexi trunking

Panel is a rigid Perlight 300W fitted to Trade Van Accessories Sahara TX3 roof bars and roof rails. Panel has only been on a month, so early days but max output so far has only been 250W.

Thanks for sending those photos over, much appreciated.

So that’s what the installer was describing.

With the conduit going through the Velcro seam do you notice any water ingress at all?
