Side step to C pillar cable routing

Hi all,
My van has a pop top fitted which makes routing cables very difficult!
I'm looking to get a 4.5mm twin flat cable to the bottom of the C pillar. Dropping down from roof level is near on impossible because I can't get a pokey stick in to feed the cable through, so I'm thinking of running it under the side step, but there doesn't appear to be any holes into the pillar. I'm therefore wondering if I can drill a hole through the metalwork behing the step, grommet and feed cable up this way... but not keen on making new holes if I can help it!. Has anyone ever done this?

There are some big holes if you pull the carpet back a bit further. I went in the opposite direction for a step light feed.

Thanks for the photo, its useful to see whats behind all the stretchy carpet stuff thats been glued to the whole inside... is that a LWB? My C pillar is right up against the wheel arch.

My other option is simply to run the cable under the matting along the floor, then under the sticky carpet and into the pillar that way. Got some electricians pokey sticks arriving today so will have one more go at running inside the roof channels, but its a chunky cable and the apatures to access it are so small, I'm not holding out much hope.

Any ideas if drilling a hole in the step metalwork will provide a route into the c pillar?

Yes, it’s LWB. It was only a few weeks old then, hence the shiny shiny.

I wouldn’t drill that knuckle, it’s fairly structural. I did as you describe, the cable comes out behind that knuckle under the carpet, then under the flooring to get to my step light.

The OEM route to get to a step light goes from under the passenger seat under the floor along the top of the step. Where are you taking power from for the step light?

I was already in the lighting loom as I relocated the original centre roof light to over the door, so it was easier to come down.
