A Roof Top Tent can be taken off. It can be moved from vehicle to vehicle. It does not need to be sold with the vehicle It does not require a can opener to remove most of the roof. It does not weaken the structure of the vehicle. It can be substituted for something else. Peeing from the roof is good fun gives additional range and acts as a deterrent to potential invaders if one does not have a personal Sasquatch .
If we bought one and we have considered it would be the hard shell type. So far the leading contenders would be Alu-cab and the James Baroud Evo roof tent. Both very well constructed and very tough meant for expedition use. They will stand up to extreme weather. Their may well be others but those are the main contenders that latter one was suggested recently by a member on here @Vanderlust
and they do seem very good.
