i have the chance of a genuine VW T6 stereo with built in Sat Nav is this a simple case of taking mine out and putting the new one in?

Apparently they are coded to the vehicle so I don't think it's possible

I have one in mine but use a Garmin that sticks on the window because I prefer it to the Disco

As above they cannot be changed as the unit will shutdown when powered up in a vehicle it was not originally fitted to.
It is possible to bypass this but its very complicated and expensive and requires opening the unit up to modify internal parts so not really a DIY job

It's certainly an effective way of stopping the reuse of stolen units, but I wonder if it's resulted in fewer thefts, or if the scrotes who nick them aren't aware that they're unusable and nick them anyway before passing them on to buyers who aren't aware either?

Just looked on ebay and apart from one which looks genuine the rest are not so yes very much looks like there not an easy transfer from van to van
