Rodent Damage Soya Electrical Wiring : Rip Off Britain

I had a look at the video and it did seem quite effective. I am quite intrigued by the Rat Mat. Certainly if someone had a home parking space or driveway it would be just a case of drive on switch on switch off drive off one for every car. I have no lack of space, acres but believe it or not nothing completely smooth or level little hard surface. I would need to prepare a few parking spaces. Its on the grass or in the mud as it is. Thank you for the posting.:)
No worries, no idea about the product personally but thought someone would find it useful.

My father in law has had a similar problem with his Renault Kadjar. Rat droppings all over the engine bay, gnawed cables and what looked like an attempt to nest in one the front wings!!!! It seems it's just not VW who are prone to this.

It is not just VW, a number of manufacturers use soya these days.

I can’t help against rats, but have designed a guard that will prevent against fox attacks, which is what was causing me issues.

Stop leaving food / garbage out where animals can get to it and they’ll move to a more lucrative area.
I live in the country, can’t remember the last time I saw a fox.
Bins have a lid for a reason, every city I visit has bins with the lids open.

Tried to read that article but was thwarted by an infestation of adverts. 🙄

However, I've just read that Aviva have reported a 28% increase in the number of rodent-related claims between 2023 and 2024 and the average repair bill for such a claim in 2024 was £2.5k!!

In addition to a rising rodent population, pest control experts are blaming the increased use of bioplastics in wiring looms. So, another win for the environ-mentalists.

I have had to put a lump of rat bait on top of my battery since a rodent thought it was a nice cosy spot to build a nest in the battery jacket. I also park the van over the top of a ratbait box to keep the buggers at bay. DEFRA have now tightened the rules on who can buy ratbait, we're in a rural area and if I don't keep up with the baiting, we're overrun. Our local farmer used to get buckets of rat blocks from the local farmers merchants, now he can't, so I'm looking at doing the course, £100 for a 5 year cert to kill feckin rats ffs!

I believe article 8 of the ECHR (European Convention for Housing Rats), states vermin have a right to a family life.

Just last week I stayed with a friend in the Allgau region of Germany and asked about the Pine Martin population as I have previously had a vehicle disabled two nights in a row by the little beasties chewing through the HT leads when staying just south of Munich. It is a common issue in Germany and I always used to keep a loo-blu block hanging in my engine bay when I lived there. This is just one of many measures locals take, another being a square wooden frame with chicken wire stretched across the top, and pushed under the car when parked (not so nice to walk across).
Anyway, I was told that all his vehicles had a deterrent device fitted to them, and he had a spare that he lent me that clips across the battery terminals and hangs in the engine bay. Unfortunately, we forget to detach it in the morning, and so it is here with me in UK. Not sure where such a device could be obtained from, but it should be possible. I’m also not sure whether it also affects other beasties, or just Pine Martins (Marder in German), but I believe it gives out a high pitched audible tone and suspect it would also affect other animals.
