I fancy a robot lawn mower, but know little about them. The information on the Internet is bewildering and, thanks to AI, untrustworthy when looking to spend a grand or more.

Do any of you fine fellows of fellowesses have such a thing? If so, what sort and how are you getting kn with it?

I haven’t got one but our local council use them on the grass at some busy junctions. They seem to do a good job but the ground is there is flat. They did try them on an inclined area of grass but they kept getting stuck when turning. I think I would want a “try before buy” option to see if it works ok.

I watch a couple of YouTube home renovation type channels which the contributors get donated/sponsored by manufacturers of these things. Varying results sums it up. They seem to get stuck in corners a lot.
But, I do like the concept. And the little docking and charging shelters are kind of cute.....

We’ve had one for about 6 years now and it’s been brilliant! Ours is a flymo and quite old technology now- we had to lay boundary cables around the lawn which inevitably get cut when weeding so one or two repairs! The new ones now are mostly gps so no cables but generally need to reach your wi fi (I think). Only downside’s for us have been you must remember to clean up any do poo’s before it starts and it won’t get close to any edges.

The more recent ones don't need to be able to connect with your internet, and can cope with corners and rough terrain.
I've been looking into them and I've found this video very "useful".

I don’t get why anyone would want to automate this task, mowing the lawn is the most therapeutic thing you can do in my book.

Give me your address and I’ll come round, I’m already doing the lawn opposite our house. My goal is to one day have a need to own a sit on mower

Lots of guys I work with have. I'm gonna get one as well. Looking at a mammotion one. Seem like good value for money. They suggest slopes of 45% can be accommodated. I also find cutting grass very therapeutic but means I can spend a bit more time strimming or tinkering about other things!

I've got a navimow 105 GPS, quite an uneven garden (bloody dogs keep digging holes), it's great. walk it round on a the phone controls to mark is boundary and away it goes, they all mulch so nothing to empty. (not a lot to cut this year dogs again 😂😂).. brilliant though.

As much as I enjoy mowing lawns on my John Deeres, and I agree that it is therapeutic, I'm also aware of the cost of petrol.
It's also quite time consuming.
I'd happily set a robot mower off and retire to my local pub for the evening! (and let balcony solar recharge the mowers tomorrow?)

We have been using the Husqvarna 430X since 2020 we have two of them one in garden and one in our paddock.

Sold my ride on mower and bought robot ones the best thing I did.. The novelty of cutting the grass soon wears off, and I never found it therapeutic more of a chore.
