Evening gents.

I've just seen on the Honest John website that the RFL for my 2016 150 kombi (164g/km) for the coming year will be £288........that's odd because I've been paying over £300 for as long as I can remember........£360 I think last year. I cannot believe that it is going down.........these idiots just want to tax us off the roads after all. Anyone any thoughts......other than I'm having a senior moment!!

A while ago we had 2 litre turbo diesel Mini Cooper S Clubman as fast as you like . Zero road tax. No sense at all.

I'd keep quiet, pay up and hope they don't realise their mistake until after you've done the deal.......

No deal to be done mate.....and they certainly won't have made any mistake!! I suspect it's the class of vehicle and given that it's a kombi, I suspect it's taxed differently........can't think why because based on the emissions, it should be £288 next year.........but it won't be!! Anyhow, like everyone else......well, most of us.....I'll just keep taking it up the Gary Glitter and keep smiling I suppose.......anything to help out with Rachel's Christmas club!

Just came down the M4, pretty much constant cones and flashing amber lights, definitely blowing the road repair budget before the end of the financial year.

Pretty sure if it's an N1 on the V5 it will be taxed at the flat commercial vehicle rate. If it is M1, like a Caravelle or Shuttle, it will be taxed like a car, therefore on emissions.

Road Tax is determined on CO2 emissions which will be based on the manufacturers fuel consumption figures. A 102ps will have a lower emission rate than a 204ps even if a ragged 102 burns more fuel than a gently driven 204.

Always seems unfair this so called road tax. I’ve consistently done between 8-10k miles a year and that’s included travel to work. I only work a couple of days a week now so it’ll probably be a bit less. Yet I pay the same amount as someone doing 50k miles a year. It’d be fairer if they put it on fuel. Yes I know it’s a trifle pricey ATM. Can you imagine how smooth that the roads would be if they actually spent the road tax on them. You wouldn’t spill your coffee even with a full cup. Rather than a half full lidded one.

AFAIK all light goods vehicles (N1) of a given vintage, pay the same RFL, regardless of emissions. It’s only cars and M1 class vans that are taxed on CO2 output.
But I may be wrong.

So even zero emission commercials are taxed at the same rate as diesels, there's an incentive
