Reverse light misery.

An update for anyone that might find this at a later date, i have had a mobile auto electrician out, and also my local garage look at this to no avail, i strongly believe the light has never worked and its down to the tow bar coding since it was converted, i have VCDS and it seems to be coded corectly.
Are there any gurus out there that can add any input? I've spent over £300 at this point and have no MOT to boot!

Its a 7 pin plug tow bar mate, no provision for a reverse signal... at this point im going to have to run a wire from the reverse switch to the cluster until i can find someone that understands how its coded wrong
While the trailer module on my van is different to yours this is the VCDS blockmop of it in case it is of any use. Taken with no trailer connected as you will see from the results.

I did re check all the coding and it all seemed to check out on VCDS... in my little knowledge.
I've had a break through though, within the 7 pin plug wiring there is a un used wire incase you want to upgrade to 13 pin plug so i have wired it into the cluster and it has worked, not a final fix, but atleast i can get it through an MOT!

I connected my trailer today and did a couple of tests - the reversing lights on the van work regardless of whether the trailer is connected or not, which implies your fault is unlikely to be related to the towbar electrics. Presumably this is also why you were able to wire your reverse lights to the towbar wiring. It sounds like a wiring issue in the main loom to the reverse lights (maybe the connector under the seat etc.)
Very possible its a wiring fault from the BCU to the plug under the passenger, seat, it 100% isnt from the seat backwards as i tested it for continuity, i will keep on investigating when i have time, im certainly not paying £120 an hour labour a VW van centre, thats for sure
There isnt a dedicated fuse for the reverse light, strange but true, its all controlled from the BCU under the dash which has fuses that control certain outputs
BCU... is that the same unit that is under the drivers seat in some/ older T5's? I may have them confused...
Im not familiar with the T5 platform mate, i have a fuse block under mine that runs to the electrics in the rear.... im sure one of the gurus on here can elaborate
Thanks for confirming. I traced the green/black wire under the passenger seat and proved there’s power to the connector.
Looks like the harness : wire is damaged in the roof run.. Poptop / lighting issues me thinks!
The reverse wire runs along the side of the van on mine and isnt near the pop top, which i feared was my issue, a quick continuity test would confirmed that for me
