Reverse light misery.

Evening all, i was doing my pre checks for MOT today and realised my reverse lights are not working.

2020 150 Manual, custom conversion.

I've tried...
1. Bulbs
2. Checked the plugs to them
3. Fuses, although no specific fuse listed for reverse light?
4. Traced the towbar electrics to see if there was anything obvious.

I Had a solar kit fitted a while ago, although i cant pin point when i lost the lights (they are canbus and dont throw a warning on the dash like brake light bulbs i believe) it was the last time the 'electrics' were messed with so cant help think its related some how.

Has any one else got any ideas where i should look next?

I doubt its the switch on the gearbox as the van has only done 17k miles since new.

I dont have one bud, although the reverse sensors still do?

If the reverse sensors work and the dash shows when in reverse, it implies the switch is ok. I would suspect either a fuse or wiring, although as you say finding the corerct fuse may be a challenging.

This thread may give you a clue to finding the fuse...

After spending the best part of the weekend fitting a reversing camera I've now discovered that the reversing lights on my T5 don't work. They didn't work before I wired in the camera so it isn't that. I've tried looking up reasons for this and I can only see that there could be a faulty...

Not on the install, all the solar wiring that was added was down the drivers side bud, i did consider that when i was brain storming i also have an existing pop top so im confident its not that ?

If you have a multimeter check the voltage at the bulb holder between the live (bottom of the bulb) and ground (side of bulb).
If no voltage try between the live (bottom of the bulb) and a clean bare steel component that is connected to the chassis.

I will give that a go, lost light earlier, am i right in thinking i can put it reverse with just the batrery on and the light should come on?

If you mean without the engine running - yes, you just need the key switch on.
Don’t short circuit the terminals in the bulb holder or you will blow a fuse, be carefully with the multimeter probes.

Incorrect. All vehicles produced after 2009 must have a functioning reverse lamp

Does the van think a trailer is connected? Do you have working fog lights? Is the towbar wiring OEM?

I had a bike rack on it and the reverse light didnt work on it either, the fog light works also, im sure the towbar is OEM but have no way of telling? Cheers for that though, I've just been out to check my fog light

The reverse light wire is green with a black trace. Comes out of the BCM under the dash and passes through the coupling point under the left seat. You could test it there

Im starting to think its something to do with the tow bar and the coding? I cant confirm they have ever worked and the last 2 MOT tests I've had they havent checked they work?
