Reverse ligbt bulb is rubbish - help!!

No camera, one dim filament bulb, is there an extra bright LED bulb i can fit in place of the dim filament bulb on my 2018 6.1 so i can actually see stuff behind me?!? I aksed my wife to go out with a torch last night in the rain so i could reverse down my mates narrow drive. Its either that or wire in a seperate flood lamp on the rear bumper - which would look poo!!!

You can retrofit the T6.1 LED rear lights (which may involve moving a few pins about in the connecting blocks, depending upon your van - I put them on my T6). This will also involve running a couple of wires across to the nearside rear light - easily done. There should be plenty on the forum about it

As @JumpShip says, I fitted LED bulbs. You could also fit a aftermarket reverse camera if your radio will not take a genuine VW camera

Its either that or wire in a seperate flood lamp on the rear bumper - which would look butch!!!

1. Safety first - disconnect the battery.

2. This is for the 6.1 but would probably apply to the 6, 5.1 and 5 tailgate models, but don't assume - there may be minor differences.

3. They're going on the panel under the rear light clusters, so mark where you need to cut. Remember - measure twice, cut once!



4. I've had these panels off before and knew there was nothing delicate behind so chose to cut the holes with them fitted and held firm.

I used a sharp craft knife with a new blade and was soon through the soft plastic. I then drilled the bolt holes.

If you have a T6, a simple and effective solution is to upgrade the rear clusters to E3's with dual reversing lights with LED bulbs....
