Restoring Interior Plastic

My driver's seat has been in and out countless times for many mods, and not exactly being body- builder material I struggle like hell to do it, meaning my plastic handbrake trim (both pieces) has got some unsightly scrapes and scratches on them. Does anyone have any tips on improving their appearance? I once tried a tip from someone when I had my T5 to carefully play a hot air gun on scratches to reduce them, but it just made the area around them shiny.

Anyone tried repainting, or would the scratches be just as obvious?
Not really wanting to pay the thick end of £50 for 2 new pieces of plastic.

You could try flocking . Careful with that one ;). You can buy kits on EB and have a go yourself or there are companys around like Banbury Flocking Services - Flocking and Motorsport Services who do it.

I image it would mark easy when it has been done, so best you make sure your have finished taking them off before you do it :)
Thanks for the suggestion but I really don't like flocked surfaces. I finished work early so I've whipped them off and sanded the scratches down, then sprayed with plastic primer and I'm amazed how well it's hidden any sign of the scratches. I'm going to get a can of black satin paint on Mon and hopefully they'll look good enough to go back in.
