Replacing strut top bearings?

Hi,

Hope you are all well. This is for a t5.1 but I am thinking my question is non generic to models. Next month I will replace all the front suspension/anti-rollbar bushes and the strut top brg's. Re: strut top brg's - I was wondering due to the weight, can I jack the van up support on axle stands, then jack the strut down, fit the new brg's and jack back up into position?

Just done one on our T6, you are supposed to remove the hub but I managed to get the strut off without, vehicle supported on blocks of wood, I compressed the spring in situ then jacked the strut up clear of the hub housing, took a while and a bit awkward.

I think I might do the struts as well now so problem solved

Be careful, there‘s enough load in those compressed springs to bypass A&E.

Personally I'd take the extra time to remove the strut completely, then the 'loaded gun' can be pointed away from horrendous injuries. I wouldn't fancy fiddling around struggling to remove nuts and counter hold the damper rod with my hands jammed up in the wheel arch turret with that spring under compression!
