Remap 150PS 4Mo

Evening all. I have a t6 4motion 150bhp and am wondering if a remap is a good idea on that engine, I tow a massive caravan regularly and the economy is pretty shocking (worse than my 3l discovery)
has anyone any experience of this, and if so any recommendations for remapping in the south Devon area?

Not sure how a remap can improve fuel economy, VW have pressure to reduce emissions so I would think they have done the best they can within European law (well some of it).
Weight and drag, Transporter and caravan contribute significantly to both.
@JOG might have some input as he drags a gypsy shed.

I know a specialist in Warrington who will show you how a remap makes your car more efficient and his mapping is the best in the world ever

In a nutshell what happens the manufacturers have to make sure the vehicle can cope within parameters of the quality of the fuel and if it runs on low octane it still needs to produce the bhp and mainly torque especially in a van

If you fine tune that (remap) and use our fuel as it’s pretty good quality then you get a better running vehicle and you won’t need to put your foot on the gas as much and this is how to get better fuel efficiency

Hope this makes sense.

And if you want a full 4x4 rolling road custom dyno remap for £199 just shout

Personally I don't think that a remap will help you. They are better in that the extra torque will get you to the most efficient cruising speed quicker, but that's all well and good if your journey is on a flat motorway at a steady 60mph. If you are towing around the south west, it's all up and down. Whilst the extra power will make it easier to climb the hills, to get that extra power, you'll use more fuel, so it's swings and roundabouts.

The van may use more fuel than the Disco when towing, but I'd guess the van is more economical than the Disco would be when solo. Again, one offsets the other.

A remap will make the van nicer, but don't expect it to save you any money.

I remapped my 150 , primarily because of towing a twin axle caravan+ van loaded.
Makes a huge difference for the better.
Also , my last van , 140 t5.1 ( Pendle mapped ) was better on fuel than friends unmapped 140 .
I've run Pendle & Revo maps on my 150 , my preference is Revo .

Miles of smiles though

We have revo about 300yards from my house and they put my van on the list for development once the ECU is unlocked so let’s see what happens in the future but agree a remap will be a game changer for towing. I mapped my stage 3 golf and it went from 300hp to over 500 and that was really bad on fuel so get some peoples perception on savings

“Gypsy shed” - it’s a palace, I’ll have you know!!!

Driving something that has the aerodynamics of a house brick is rarely going to deliver fuel efficiency regardless of whether one is fully loaded or dragging a caravan. (Or, as those down that direction call them: “home!!!”)

I am still under warranty so I wouldn’t consider an engine remap. Besides, 150bhp is fine for my needs. When I’m out of warranty, I might consider a gearbox mapping to make the DSG smoother.

*less than six months until I spend the summer clogging up the A303, A30, A38 etc. I can’t wait!!!

** @DXX - I’ll be the one offering to do your drive, sharpen knives, mend saucepans etc

Not sure if this will be helpful but I fitted a DTI Tuning box to are 1.5 turbo petrol Mini Countryman all4 for towing are caravan. I don’t think it will give you the same BHP as a remap but can give you nearly as must torque so just what I needed for towing.I don’t see any difference in MPG but its pulling up the hills much better and still giving the same MPG .
What I find good about it is I went for the Bluetooth model so can adjust with phone on the move and even better turn it off when not needed so engine is running stock not putting any strain on parts.I was looking at remap but it ups the power a lot on are car so was not to happy at putting this load on the engine when not needed.
It not cheap but I find it better for what we needed and most of the time we just run it on number 3 out of 7 settings.
I am sure they do a 14 day money back if not happy with it and I know engine remapers don’t like them but they wouldn’t .
I have towed are 1450 kg caravan with my 140 euro 5 t6 but the mini is just better at pulling and with the 4 wheel drive works in the wet .

The power delivered by a remap is also adjustable. There is a potentiometer that you control with your right foot.

Any news on the ECU on the new van ?
