Reg Plate Screws Query

Hi All,

Birthday present from the Wife last week was a Private plate - T6 ... How lucky am I!

As per other posts I leave jobs on my van to experts as it usually ends in tears - but I thought I'd be OK with putting the new plates on, however...

Front - straight forward - holes have simply been drilled in, so plates simply screw on (already drilled holes on new plate using current plate as template).

Rear - confused... There are two holes drilled - the screw is flat - I don't want to use the existing screws as they are a black plastic one and a metal silver one - ideally I want yellow so not noticeable on plate. However I can't seem to find the screws used - they measure 5mm.

Halfords had similar nylon screw but too wide. B&Q - nearest screw that looked similar was a Pan Head screw - but it's simply turning round- plus silver - top of screw too wide to fit into the yellow caps you can buy.

I've attached pictures but they're not good quality - however someone might be able to make out what I'm after... If it needs to be clearer I'll take new ones.

Thanks as always.20181218_101937 (1).jpg 20181218_102104 (2).jpg

If you've not already drilled the rear plate, they look far better just double sided tape to hold on. You can buy the pads from most places, just make sure both surfaces are perfectly clean. I've been doing that for years, and never lost a plate.
Who ever used that metal coach bolt has zero attention to detail, because that will just look crap in my opinion.

Are you 100% sure they are 5mm,as i thought all number plate screws were 6mm?
These are on Ebay
TAXI ROOF SIGN YELLOW PLASTIC SCREWS & NUTS 5mm PACKET OF 5

The rear plate screws in to a blind aluminium rivnut (why VW used these is beyond me) so you can purchase black and yellow plastic screws but they need cutting down in length. Or, as I and others have done and use trim tape.

Hi,

Pretty much every car/van I looked at had the plate screwed - hence I went for that approach, in hindsight yes wished I've have just gone with double sided tape...

OK - think problem is solved - just been to local car part shop - he said straight away standard M6 coach bolt - I measured that screw numerous times and it was 5mm!!!

He gave me 2 M6 - yellow in colour - I've just hacksawed to measure same length as existing so fingers crossed. Not quite as neat as hoped as in effect a flat head screw on show - but probably being too picky!

Thanks all again, any probs I'll let you know...
