Hi everyone i had my van mot done yesterday ( 2015 t32 sportline 53000 miles) passed ok but tester gave advisory for slight play in rear wheel bearings. Has anyone had this job done and could i ask much did it cost .

Bognor Motors are on your doorstep, give them a call. Just dropped mine there for some work.

I'd jack it up and check for myself before getting any work done, unless they're noisy.

I did it myself. Well front anyway. Not a bad job tbh. And deffo front harder than the rear.

Hi DaveD I could do that but I'm concerned that if I don't get it done as an advisory it will be a fail next year and I will have to do it anyway.

Hi I am thinking of doing it myself with FAG high quality bearings but I would need to get a puller kit ( £38 from ebay) which I could then keep if I need to do the front in the future .

I'll be doing the same

Not necessarily, It is a bit subjective and I believe that some testers (not all) dish out an advisory if they think that you'll then book it in with their garage to have the work carried out.
I once had an advisory for front lower arms 3 years running, they have voids in the rubber bushes and even from new they appear to have a bit of play in them.
It'd be unusual for the rear wheel bearings to start to fail in a van of such low mileage.

Hi Dave I would usually agree with you but the place I have used for 8 years are called Mot test and that's all they do they do not have a work shop and do not do repairs . In 8 years they have failed my van twice once for the the reflectors on the TL-RS rear bumper did not actually reflect and once because the letters on a set of new number plates were not correctly spaced they also aligned a set of aftermarket led headlights i fitted free of charge .
Btw if you take your vehicle for a retest in 14 days it's free what more could you ask .

There’s still no harm in jacking up yourself and checking, 10 min work. You’ll also have a reference to compare with after the repair.
Very odd that the bearing is failing at such low mileage, has the van spent long periods without moving?
Static roller, needle and ball bearings deteriorate badly if left in the same position under load.

Yes it does sit around a bit sometimes hence 53k miles in 11 years.

i did my rears at 30k, though there was no play its just they were noisy. all very straight forward and many videos on youtube showing the process, if i recall correctly it took a decent amount of force to pull the old ones out using the tool.

Brinelling?

I had a rear wheel bearing start to fail on my previous t5 camper down in Croatia. By the time I got home I couldn't go above 50 because of the noise. Jacked it up several times on the journey and no play detectable. Simple job to change with a puller kit if you put the right spacers in - watch the video!
