Rear speaker wire routing

Hi all,

I'm looking to install some rear speakers in my kombi conversion, I have the cab headliner and a pillar trims off whilst doing some sound deadening and front speaker upgrades I just wondered what the best way to route the speaker wire to the back is?

I want to run it up the a pillar and back but I don't know how to get the wire from the head unit to the pillar, is this straightforward? I haven't taken the head unit out yet so apologies if it's obvious when I do. Does the glovebox need to come out? Is the left or right pillar easier? Any tips/pointers would be appreciated!

I used a wire puller like this one: Amazon Link

Once you have the head unit out I followed the existing cabling route out the back on the right hand side and came out behind the trim on the drivers side and then straight up the A-pillar from there, and then taped it onto the existing wire loom along the ceiling. It's a bit fiddly behind the instrument cluster but I found it easier for my son to feed it through from the stereo aperture and I guided it through looking up underneath from the pedals. cable tied it up out of the way.

I bought the speaker wire with the required pins from SCR Distribution for £20 and followed the guide on here to insert the pins to original loom and enabled the fade function through OBD eleven.

Hi @Jezmondo71, thanks for your reply, will aim to follow the same route.

I have 2 more quetions now if that's ok:

1. Can you share the guide for inserting the pins in the original loom, my forum searching skills seem to be failing me (like most other skills).
2. I didn't realise you could enable fade with OBD11, I have one of these, is there a guide I can follow on this?

One weird thing and I think it's mentioned in that thread, when I initially went through enabling fade the menu option didn't appear straight away and I thought I'd done it wrong but it was late so I left it and went to bed, next morning when I started the van the menu option appeared and everything was working?!

on my T6 I went up the passenger A pillar. I did take the glove box out which made it much easier and really simple to do, its only held in by a few torx screws and trim clips. Saves the hassle of fiddling with somthing to push the wires through. Up the passenger A pillar you can then follow the OEM cables down the passenger side to the rear. I cables tied the new speaker wire to the OEM and finished off with some cloth tape.

I took the A pillar off but left the headliner in

@david173 did you also take off the trim and remove the head unit to connect the rear speaker wiring, or could you unplug the connector after just taking the glove box out?

you would need to take the head unit out to get to the rear of it.

Normally after coding do a soft reset or press and hold the on/off for it to switch and reboot normally coding takes affect
