Anyone know what the 2 holes for the rear numberplate use to secure a numberplate ? Screw, bolt, magic.....?

Pan head Torx bolt on my van.

And standard plastic numberplate bolts on the bus.

Plastic ones on mine. They screw into the threaded bosses. Never had one fail in 45 years of motoring.

If it's a black screw in a digit, the slot has to follow the orientation of the line of the digit it goes through. That obviously dictates the orientation of the other screw.
If they are both yellow, then horizontal to match the portrait orientation of the numberplate.

Mine have caps on the screws so my screw orientation is hidden is it a MOT failiure if this is wrong, plus one screw cap is blue old EU style plate should I get new plates

It's a M6 thread for the rear plate - I have number plate holders on there fitted using these M6 x 8mm flat screws

It's the same fitting on my Octavia as well, so they have come in doubly handy.
