Rear main seal with DMF replacement? T6.1

Hi,
I need to replace my dual mass flywheel on my 2021 T6.1 (CXHA) and my local Indy have advised to also replace the rear main seal as preventative maintenance, even if it appears ok. They say that the seal is easy to damage/scratch when removing the DSG box.
What are the failure rates of the rear main seal? Is it worth it? It’s about £500 dearer than another quote only for the DMF.

Shouldn’t be anywhere near an extra £500.
They can’t damage it removing the gearbox.
Dependant on mileage yes it’s worth doing but they are lying through their teeth, take your business elsewhere.

Sorry, do you mean they can or can’t damage it by removing the gearbox/flywheel?

Sorry typo, now edited, no they can’t damage it removing the gearbox, clutch and flywheel (DMF).

If it helps, I've just had the clutch replaced on my van. They also found a small leak on the rear seal. My garage (an indy) charged £189 (VAT inc) for the flange seal/cover and the extra labour charge to replace the rear main oil seal was £39 (inc) . Obviously the gear box was already off for the clutch, which came with its own labour fees (ouch) They used a VAG part. I assume we are talking about the same part.

Wow that’s cheap
The whole bloody bill wasn't!!

New clutch, DMF, Slave, rear main oil seal, and all the related fluids etc and a 4 wheel alignment and all the labour, cost me £1600. I have no real idea whether that is reasonable or not. Too late if it isn't.

Can you pass me the details of where you went? For a new DMF only, it’s £1300!

Looks like a fair way from you, but it was GermanSpecialists, Bredbury, Stockport.
I have just seen on your post that yours is a DSG, and mine is a manual box, so no idea if that would make a difference to the cost. I just drive the thing, not real idea how these things work, lol.
