Crank case seal replacement - cam belt off?

So got a hefty quote for a few things on the van whilst in for MOT and service. Mainly for the DMF but might as well do as much as possible whilst it's all off.

An unforeseen cost is there's an oil leak at the crank seal. The mechanic says he'll need to take the timing belt off to replace it. Not being much of a car/van engine guru, I'm unsure as to why, and haven't had the chance to pop back for a proper chat with him yet.

Can anyone confirm that the belt needs to come off for this seal replacement?

What other seals could I ask to be replaced whilst the clutch/gearbox/timing belt are off?

It's a bit of a moot point anyway, when I originally questioned it he said there's also oil getting on the timing belt from the crank seal, so I should replace it. Bit of a shame and the belt has only done 20k, but fair enough.

done a bit of digging in the workshop manual

looking at the gearbox side there's a shaft seal

And at the belt pulley side there's another crank shaft oil seal

The mechanic isn't back in until Monday so can't yet confirm what he's snagged as leaking

The two jobs aren't related so you could do the crank pulley oil seal now and get the dmf done at a later date.
make sure you get the water pump done when they do the crank pullley and timing belt.
It would be a good idea to replace the clutch components at the same time as the DMF.

Good point about splitting the jobs up for each side of the engine. Might have to consider it to spread the cost.

Ye DMF, clutch kit with slave cylinder, fwd crank seal, cambelt and water pump. Also gear box oil and inspection of splines and gearbox mounts. All currently on the quote

Will add rear crank seal also

Well my T6 has just passed 145k and is still on the original gearbox oil and has never had the splines checked. I'm not saying that mine is the correct maintenance schedule, but at 20k I don't think I'd be paying to get that checked in a hurry. These are commercial vehicles made to do twice that mileage per year.

The 20k in the original post refers to the time since the cambelt was last changed. My van is also around the 150k mark
