Hi, we where told by our dealer that our front wheels have been knocked slightly out of true, but that they said the could be straightened by a specialist has anyone got any suggestions. We are based in SE London but obviously reasonably mobile. They are 20” alloys.
Regards John.

Have you noticed any symptoms such as vibration or uneven tyre wear?
Has anybody else, such as an independent tyre fitter using a balancing machine, corroborated the dealer's opinions?

I haven’t noticed, it was the tyre fitter who noticed when he put new tyres on as part of the service. I knew we where due for tyres but one was a bit worse than I thought.

Hi, have you been in a crash, are the wheels the correct load rating, wheels don’t just deform on their own. I think you need to find out what has happened to them.

I’m no alloy wheel expert but bending an alum’ alloy casting doesn’t seem like a very good idea. It maybe possible but that doesn’t make it right.

I’ve had a couple of alloys done on a car I bought - the previous owner must have hit a bad pot hole or ran over a brick! On the tyre balancing machine they were akin to a 50p spinning round but in reality were in a few MM at one point.

They have been fine ever since, had more tyres fitted and I cannot tell which were the dinged ones. The last tyre fitter didnt spot anything on the balancer.

I agree with you on the re-bending of ally but for me a pair of second hand wheels are circa £700 which may or may not have been repaired so I thought better the devil etc…

There is specialist equipment to do the job so you’d think there was some due diligence before making such tools. Effectively a spinning wheel mount with a jack arrangement from the axle to the rim. When I researched it, the application of heat (blowtorch) helps the metal ease back into shape and maintain structure.

(Just googled - £1500 a pair used refurbished)
