How much noise/rattle/ crashing around does a pop top create on anything but billiard smooth roads?
Replies appreciated as on a typical road I can't be heard on the hands free, and it can give me ear ache.....
Thanks

I have an SCA 194 roof installed, no rattles from it at all, once pulled down there are some butterfly clips that you twist to pull it down further and lock it into position. I can easily have a hands free conversation at 70 mph. There is a spoiler at the front of the roof which directs airflow up and over so maybe this helps with the noise level.

No experience of other roofs though I’m afraid.

Also have SCA 194, exactly as described above, previous roof was Austops this was also rattle and squeak free.

I also have a sca and there is no noise at all, in fact the only noises I get are from my tambour doors and my cutlery
Which roof do you have ?

I have a Reimo roof and no rattles or squeaks or creaks at all. As above pull the locking straps down evenly and it should snug down on the rubber trim?

Thanks for all your input, much appreciated.
What make/model of roof do you have? Someone with similar may be able to comment as to whether the level of noise you are getting is typical or give you some pointers to see if there is a problem and/or adjustment required with your installation.

It is a SCA 192 Comfort unit.

Odd thing is, whilst having some wrap stuff done today, the roof was open in the workshop for several hours while I worked in the van. This the longest time it has been opened for. I shut it down as normal, and checked both sides to ensure it was secured, and it was hugely quieter on the way home. Do they bed(!) in?

Should add I couldn’t find any loose fittings...I used the workshops steps to check the fittings on the raised roof.

Is it possible that the catches were not tight previously? Don’t know about the 192 but the 194 has catches that drop over a bar and are then tightened with a half turn which pulls the roof down circa 10mm to make it tight?

Possible I suppose, although there has never been any gap between roof and frame nor give once the roof has been shut down. Just the noise.

Yes....I was thinking a rubber pad around the clasp might be needed, but there are no signs of impact/rubbing damage.

If the clasps/bars were incorrectly fitted (or adjusted?) then it's possible that the roof is not being pulled down tight enough - whilst the van was in the workshop with the roof up the rubbers would have warmed up and given chance to expand a bit - this might be why your journey home was a bit quieter and may mean that the rattling will soon come back?? With my roof, when you first pull it down the weight of the roof positions it such that the clasps align nicely with the bars (the clasps usually fall exactly level with the bars but I have had to give a slight tug to get the roof down a bit more a couple of times - usually in the warmer weather when the roof has been up for a few days) and the half turn of the clasps then pulls it down nice and tight.

Your's definitely doesn't sound quite right so, if the noise comes back/continues, I'd go back to the people that fitted it too have a look.
