Prnds Not Lit Dsg

I just picked up a brand new 204 DSG and my wife pointed out that the characters on DSG gearstick where not lit. I've asked around and apparently each character should light up as its selected.
Any ideas why this would be? is it a setting or something?
I have tried the dimmer switch next to the light switch and the dash and comfort lighting all light up and dim as you would expect but nothing from the gearstick.

Oh yeh, lit up in white and changes with the selection . . . (MY18 T32 204 DSG Trnsptr)

didnt even notice before.

The display is also on the dash in the middle of the clocks.

I asked someone I know to check his 2018 and his did although its a 150 I don't know why the 204 wouldn't have it

Mine is a 204DSG 4-Motion. The characters are lit to indicate the gear that you currently in which is also shown on the dash.

Not very bright on a sunny day but very evident at night.

As above. 204 DSG 4Motion (LHD). The gear in is lit brighter, even when in "manual" mode (+/- is then lit).
